Tanzania is a land where faith and culture weave tightly together. Around a third of the population identifies as Muslim, with coastal regions such as Dar es Salaam and Mtwara home to large Muslim communities. For Muslim background believers, holding a printed Bible may draw unwanted attention. But an Audio Bible, small and discreet, can be tucked into daily routines, listened to at home, shared within families, and passed on quietly from ear to ear. In this context, the spoken Word becomes more than a resource. It becomes a treasure.

It began with a cry for help. Pastors and believers from Dar es Salaam and even as far as Mozambique pleaded: “Please come, We need Audio Bibles.” These were not casual requests. They were desperate appeals from communities where literacy is low and where many believers come from Muslim backgrounds. In these places, the printed Bible can be difficult to access or even carry openly. Yet the hunger for God’s Word is undeniable.

Participant follows the Word of God through the Audio Bible

Theovision team saw God’s hand even before the journey began. At the time, supplies of Audio Bibles were low. Calls from Dar es Salaam and Mozambique had been persistent, yet there were not enough devices to meet the need. Just as the doors seemed to close, God provided. Through the generosity of partners, Audio Bibles were secured to make the trip possible.

That is why Theovision Kenya, through the Word for All Program, set out on a journey that would cover hundreds of miles by road. From Nairobi, Kenya they traveled through Namanga, Arusha, Dodoma, and Dar es Salaam, finally reaching Mtwara. Tanzania’s beauty revealed itself along the way, wide savannahs dotted with acacia trees, bustling towns, and finally the humid coastal belt along the Indian Ocean.

Listening group session among participants

The impact of these Audio Bibles quickly became evident. Along the road, the team encountered Mohamed, a taxi driver from the Zaramo tribe. He came from a non-Christian background, yet when he was offered an Audio Bible, he gladly accepted it. Before long he began listening with genuine curiosity.
