Dr. Francis Mbai, a practicing medic, has always had a strong desire to see a hospital established in Chemayes, East Pokot, Kenya. In this region, the need is real. Many families travel long distances to access medical care, something that motivated Dr. Mbai to think about starting a local health facility in this area.
Fellowship at the local community church
But while he thought about medicine first, God interrupted his plan. He received a clear instruction: Build a church first. The word came with weight and clarity; so clear that he describes it as a turning point he could not ignore. The message was simple, but firm:
Dr. Mbayi and Pastor Israel at the community church in Chemayes
For Dr. Mbayi, that moment settled everything. He chose obedience. He heeded the voice of God and began laying foundations, not for a hospital at first, but for a church. Not long after, Dr. Mbai reached out to us with a simple posture of surrender: “Here I am—use me.”He shared that his people were hungry for God’s Word and needed Audio Bibles in their home area. That is how our partnership began. Together, we supported Bible Listening Group (BLG) training in Chemayes to help the church raise disciples and grow strong listening groups.
During the recent Theovision Kenya Bible Listening Group training, a young boy suddenly needed urgent medical attention. No one nearby could assist, except Dr. Mbai. He administered first aid on the spot, then left the training and rushed with the boy for many kilometers to find further treatment. That moment stayed with him and kept reminding him how serious the healthcare gap is in Chemayes.
Today, Dr. Mbai stands as a living picture of calling in motion: a doctor who keeps practicing medicine while also building a faith community. He believes spiritual transformation and community wellbeing belong together.
Partner with Dr. Mbai and us as he is also calling on anyone burdened for church planting to connect with him, so they can build together in Chemayes.
